A Summer School Party: The Ball’s 3rd Birthday

Since the Ball’s birthday fell on a day of summer school, the Hubby and I talked it over, and instead of letting him miss school to celebrate, we decided to celebrate in school with his classmates and teachers. So.. viola! Our very first school party! Continue reading “A Summer School Party: The Ball’s 3rd Birthday”

My Top 10 Field Trip Tips for Parents

I went on the nth school field trip with my daughter a few weeks ago.  It’s heart-warming to see how the kids enjoy discovering new things and places, how excited they are when trying things for the first time, and how proud they are when their parents can come along.  The hubby and I take turns going with the Princess every year, but since I’m the one who prepares them and fixes whatever they need to bring regardless, I’ve learned a thing or two about accompanying my child on a field trip. What’s in store for 2017?

On a more personal note, I’ve experienced several milestones in 2016 which led me to thinking: What’s in store for me in 2017?  Well, since one highlight of 2017 was being able to start MommySOM, I figure I should kick off the blog this year on a high and hopeful note.  The past year sure had a lot of challenges, but here’s what I am most thankful for in 2016 and what I pray 2017 will bring. So, we decided to consciously make an effort to schedule both 2-on-1 and 1-on-1 time with the little Princess. Continue reading “On Flowers and Milkshakes: 2-on-1 parent time with your child”

To All Expectant and Nursing Moms (And my running BFF series!)

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month! Truthfully, I was not able to breastfeed for very long.  I breastfed the Princess for four months, and then the Baby Ball until he was a little over a year old. And certainly for me, I broke down more times than I kept track of.  But, you know those “mom” moments?  Those very special and powerful moments, those moments when you feel your heart just bursting with love when you realize you would do anything and everything in your power to keep your child safe? I got a lot of those when I looked down at my nursing baby. Continue reading “To All Expectant and Nursing Moms (And my running BFF series!)”

When you know you’re a Parent

I had a somewhat unusual self-revelation while watching the auditions of American Idol.  I realized that you know you’re a parent when your dreams and ambitions take the backseat, and you find yourself instead devoted to enabling your children to achieve theirs.
